Transient Stability of Low-Inertia Power Systems With Inverter-Based Generation

This study examines the transient stability of low-inertia power systems with inverter-based generation (IBG) and proposes a sufficient criterion. In grids, interactions are induced between electromagnetic dynamics IBG electromechanical synchronous generator (SG) under fault. For this, hybrid IBG-SG system is established delta-power-frequency model developed. Based on this model, new mechanisms instability different from those conventional energy perspective discovered. First, two loss-of-synchronization (LOS) types identified based relative imbalance owing to mismatch inertia SG Second, angle frequency will jump at moment fault, thus affecting energy. Third, cosine damping coefficient induces positive dissipation, thereby contributing stability. A unified criterion for identifying LOS proposed using function method. proved be condition addressing effects jumps The effectiveness verified simulation results.
